Changes At The Top

It’s been decades since the Street has seen 3 CEO’s from big investment banks turnover in the same year. Could this be the year?

CNBC’s Charlie Gasparino joins the panel for this discussion. Following are excerpts from what was said.

Gasparino lays odds against how likely Chuck Prince, Jimmy Cayne and Stan O’Neal will lose their jobs.

Company                              CEO                           Odds

Citigroup (C)                    Chuck Prince:            2-1

Bear Stearns (BSC)            Jimmy Cayne:            6-1

Merrill Lynch (MER)             Stan O'Neal:             10-1

Gasparino says Prince could be out in 4 months and there are rumblings that John Thain is on the Citi radar as his replacement. Also Gasparino reported earlier today on CNBC that Citi offered Thain the CFO post earlier in the year.

Jimmy Cayne has a health problem, adds Gasparino. I give him 6 months.

And Stan O’Neil has done a good job, but he’s changed the culture at Merrill. Subsequently, he isn’t liked.

Pete Najarian says the trade is buying Citi stock as well as the put. Then, he says, sell the upside call about 3 months out and collect the dividend.
