UAL , parent of United Airlines, Thursday said it raised fares by as much as $10 round-trip for domestic flights of less than 1,500 miles and by up to $20 on round-trip domestic flights longer than 1,500 miles.

An airline spokeswoman said the increase, implemented on Wednesday night, includes some -- but not all -- markets where UAL faces low-fare competition. She said the increase will help offset the high cost of jet fuel.
