Carmelo Anthony Confirms: BDA Sports "Terminated"

Carmelo Anthony

It was only a week ago that I was reading an article by an old friend and colleague,'s Ric Bucher entitled "BDA helps Anthony continue prosperous relationship with Nike."

This was despite the fact that Anthony had issued a release the week before, through the Nuggets, that he had, in fact, terminated BDA Sports.

Well folks, the saga continues. Minutes ago, we received this e-mail in our box.

"With great momentum, a positive outlook and big goals for 2008, NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets announced today that he has officially begun the process of laying new groundwork for his brand and image with some significant changes made to his public relations, marketing, and management team.

Contrary to recent reports suggesting that all was intact with his representation by BDA Sports ... Anthony goes on record to say, "Consistent with my announcement on Sunday, March 16, 2008, I have terminated BDA Sports and its marketing group from all future marketing and PR efforts; however, I have retained Calvin Andrews as my agent. Anthony is currently in the process of searching for a new marketing firm to be the lead in marketing, sponsorships, and endorsements, but confirms that any agreement with the new firm will be on a non-exclusive basis."

The release was issued by a representative of Tease Marketing, the agency of Theresa Tran, who Anthony also hired. Tran is a well-known industry veteran who worked with Anthony when she was the director of communications for the Jordan brand from 2001-2006.

Update: I just spoke to Calvin Andrews, who said he supports Anthony going in a different direction for marketing if that is what he wants. Although Anthony terminated his exclusive marketing relationship with BDA Sports, Andrews reiterated that he is still employed by the company.
