Irish Anti-Fraud Officers Raid Anglo Irish Bank HQ

Irish police and corporate fraud investigators have raided the headquarters of Anglo Irish Bank in Dublin in search of records to document suspicious cash transfers.

The national police force says about 20 officers went into Anglo's headquarters Tuesday morning to seize paper and electronic files.

These will be examined by the police's Bureau of Fraud Investigation with assistance from Ireland's Office of Corporate Enforcement.

Ireland nationalized Anglo last month amid rising worries about failing property loans on its books.

The bank is accused of funneling billions through another bank, Irish Life & Permanent, to inflate its deposit levels and conceal Anglo's poor financial state from shareholders.

Anglo chiefs deny wrongdoing.
