Where to Invest Now: Small Caps and more

We ask two top financial planners to give us one idea each for the average investor.

Jerry Lynch, JFL Consulting
Take a look at small-cap index funds. I like theiShares S&P SmallCap 600 Growth Index Fund (IJT), an ETF of small caps. Generally, smaller companies will do better coming out of a recession as they are nimble enough to excel and take advantage of the opportunities, especially if they have inherently good products and services.

Lauren Lindsay, Personal Financial Advisors
The Fidelity Contrafund (FCNTX)is a large-cap no-load mutual fund that has recently been reopened and has a five-star rating from Morningstar. I like the management and the fund has a good long-term track record.
