ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., July 21, 2009- After a long bruising battle, the state of California finally reached a preliminary deal to close the state's $26 billion dollar budget shortfall. But this agreement hardly means the problems facing the nation's most populist state are in the rearview mirror.

Tonight, Tuesday, July 21st at 9PM ET, CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, will broadcast a live special, "California in Crisis," anchored by CNBC's Sue Herera. The one-hour special will look at how the Golden State plans to lift itself out of troubled times and shine again.

With reporters across California and on Wall Street, CNBC takes a look at how the ramifications of a financial failure in California will impact the entire U.S. economy as well as companies and investors around the world. California may be the largest state in trouble, but it isn't alone---CNBC will tell you how financially healthy your state is.

CNBC's Jane Wells reports live from Sacramento, Julia Boorstin live in Los Angeles, Jim Goldman live in Silicon Valley and Mary Thompson live from Wall Street.

Guests include Former California Governor Gray Davis, California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, California Controller John Chiang and California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.

Sue Herera is co-anchor of CNBC's "Power Lunch" (M-F, 12PM-2PM ET).
