Matsui, Giambi, Reggie & LeBron Buy A Piece Of Yankee Stadium

Over the next week, over 700 items from the old Yankee Stadium will be sold in a three separate auctions by Steiner Sports. There are tons of items featured from the dugout bat holder to a sign that boasts of the Yankees' 26 world championships.

Steiner Sports chairman Brandon Steiner said he’s satisfied with the way the auction is going, mentioning that it will raise about $1.5 million.

We obviously have some pretty big boy stuff in the auction, but I’m proud of the fact that we have a lot of items that are a few hundred bucks or less,” Steiner said. “This is not only about one sale, it’s about laying the groundwork with Yankees fans who have never bought collectibles from us.”

Steiner told CNBC that two players - Jason Giambi and Hideki Matsui - bought their lockers for $50,000 before they went on sale. Reggie Jackson also bought his locker for an undisclosed sum along with 30 pairs of seats. Other headliners that bought a pair of seats were Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, who has a exclusive autograph deal with Steiner and LeBron James.

Another auction later this year scheduled to close later this year will have other big ticket items, including Marino Rivera’s locker, which was also used by Don Mattingly.
