Tributes to Steve Jobs

Upon the announcement that Steve Jobs passed away on Oct. 5, 2011, the public outpouring from individuals, corporations, and the media resounded around the globe.

Words of admiration came from posts on Twitter and statements by companies, to Apple fans congregating outside of the company’s stores to show their respect for the visionary who changed the lives of so many.

Click ahead for a variety of tributes to Steve Jobs in the hours and days following his passing.

Immediately following the announcement, Apple's Internet homepage, Apple.com, became a tribute to the late visonary leader. In classic Apple style, the page was clean and simple, a lesson Jobs taught the world throughout his career.

A graffiti tribute, "I Love Steve," is seen outside of an Apple retail store in New York City, as Apple faithful congregated around the iconic location on 5th Avenue.

Another simple, yet powerful tribute to Steve Jobs was on the Google homepage. Below the site's main search bar, the words "Steve Jobs, 1955-2011" were displayed, with Jobs' name linking back to the Apple tribute page.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted a status updatein tribute of Steve Jobs, not long after hearing the announcement. It read: "Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you."

Within 2 hours, Zuckerberg's update was "liked" more than 150,000 times and shared over 12,000 times.

Surina Shukri, from New York, lights a candle in remembrance of Steve Jobs. Shortly after the news of Jobs death broke, crowds of people flocked to nearby Apple Stores, including the iconic 5th Avenue store in New York City, to pay tribute to Jobs. Monitors in Apple Stores were also displaying the Apple website's tribute.

Tech-focused websites that covered everything Apple-related, such as Engadget.com, also paid tribute to the passing of Steve Jobs. Seen here is the website's post, which contains a picture that reads: "Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do," which was part of Apple's "Think Different" campaign.

Popular blog BoingBoing.net featured a characteristically creative tribute to Jobs, which transformed its site into something resembling a retro user interface from an early model Macintosh computer.

Steve Jobs is remembered outside the 5th Avenue Apple Store on Oct. 5, 2011, in New York City. Flowers were placed on the sidewalk with a "Keep Thinking Different" sign next to them, referring to Apple's Think Different campaign early in the company's history.
