Friars Club Comedy Film Festival Announces 2012 Lineup

NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival (FCCFF) has announced the lineup for its fourth annual event, which will take place October 24 to 27 in New York City. More than 40 films will be screened during four-day celebration of comedy film, presented by the legendary Friars Club.

It's a Disaster, from director Todd Berger, will open the festival at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College on October 24. This will be the NYC premiere of the film – starring Julia Stiles, America Ferrara, David Cross, Jeff Grace, Kevin Brennan and Todd Berger – which tells the story of longtime friends stuck at a couples brunch on the brink of the end of the world.

This year's Centerpiece Film will be the NYC premiere of director Michael Walker's film Price Check (Sundance 2012), which stars Parker Posey as the new boss of a struggling supermarket chain and Eric Mabius as her employee.

The NYC premiere of Lay the Favorite, which boasts a heavy-hitting cast of Bruce Willis, Vince Vaughn, Rebecca Hall, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Laura Prepon and Joshua Jackson, expertly helmed by Oscar-nominated director Stephen Frears, will close the festival at The School of Visual Arts Theatre on October 27.

Spotlight highlights include the NYC premieres of Irish comedic fright-fest Grabbers (Sundance 2012), Quentin Dupieux's inventive story of man searching for his lost dog in Wrong (Sundance 2012) and veteran comedian Eddie Pepitone's search for a breakthrough in The Bitter Buddha (Edinburgh 2012). Competition titles include the NYC premieres of Alex Karpovsky's (Girls) road comedy Red Flag, the NYC premiere of The History of Future Folk, the tale of two aliens forming a bluegrass band from directors John Mitchell and Jeremy Kipp-Walker, and the US premiere of Jordan Galland's less-than-superhero story Alter Egos, starring Danny Masterson.
