Australia shares seen flat, metals prices to support

CANBERRA, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Australian shares are likely toopen flat on Friday on mixed leads from Wall Street, holdingbelow 14-month highs hit earlier this week, although a reboundin metal prices may help index-heavy mining stocks.

* Local share price index futures

added one pointto 4,477, a 6.5-point discount to the underlying S&P/ASX 200index

close. The benchmark fell 0.2 percent on Thursdayto 4,483.5, its second loss in a row.

* New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index

rose 0.1percent to 3,889.0 in early trade.

* U.S. stocks ended flat on Thursday after gains on betterjobs data were erased in part by a drop in Apple shares.

* Miners may get some lift as copper bounced on Thursdayfrom two-week lows and iron ore prices hit an 11-week high.

* The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index

,

tracking rates for ships carrying dry commodities, rose onThursday on increased demand for coal and iron ore fixtures.

* The Australian dollar

hit a one-week high onThursday as expectations for a November rate cut weakened afterdata showed employment rose 14,500 in September, compared toforecasts for a slight rise of 3,750.
