Indianapolis and Marion County Treasurer Receives State Approval to “Go Paperless” with Invoice Cloud

Legislative action results in taxpayers’ ability to receive bills electronically and forgo printed bills

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Marion County Treasurer Claudia Fuentes successfully petitioned Indiana Department of Local Government Finance for approval of its electronic property tax billing system (provided by Invoice Cloud) under Indiana Code 6-1.1-22-8.1.

In the last couple of years Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and others have enacted legislation that allows taxpayers to receive emailed bills instead of paper bills. Invoice Cloud has supported this legislation by providing a "best practices" solution with appropriate safety nets for the municipalities served. To aid in the Indiana approval, Invoice Cloud conducted a demonstration of the system's registration and payment procedure and security measures, including its compliance with the Indiana Uniform Electronic Transactions Act, IC 26-2-8 and the national Payment Card Industry Security Standards.

According to Marion County Treasurer Claudia Fuentes, “Since implementing the Invoice Cloud service last April, the number of online tax payments have increased by 90%. Now that we have demonstrated that our electronic billing system complies with Indiana law, we are anticipating that taxpayers will elect to go paperless because it is more convenient and better for the environment. This is great timing because our second property tax installment is due Nov 13.” For more information or to sign up, go to http://www.indy.gov/treasurer and click on “Go Paperless.”
