Leading Russian Novelist Olga Slavnikova to Speak on Art, Culture During October North American Visit

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Olga Slavnikova, one of Russia's most acclaimed contemporary novelists, will travel to the US and Canada this month. Ms. Slavnikova is the director of the Debut Prize and the internationally renowned author of six major novels. She has won virtually every literary honor Russia has to offer, in addition to any number of international accolades. Her novel 2017 won her the country's most prestigious award, the Russian Booker Prize. 2017 was published in English in 2010 and has just been released in paperback.  

Slavnikova has the opportunity to win the Russian Booker Prize again this year for her most recent novel, Light Head.  She is one of six finalists for this year's prize, which will be announced on December 4th.  Light Head will also be released in English this year.

During her most recent visit to the United States in June 2012, Slavnikova was joined by Martin Amis at the New York Public Library for a reading and participated in BookExpo America. On October 22, Slavnikova will read and discuss art and culture in Russia with Elizabeth Taylor, Literary Editor of The Chicago Tribune, at the Newberry Library in Chicago. In Toronto, she will participate in the Harbourfront Centre International Festival of Authors (IFOA).

Ms. Slavnikova will be traveling with a group of young Russian poets as part of an effort to introduce new Russian literature to an English language audience.
