Google and HP are pulling their new Chromebook laptop off the market temporarily after multiple reports of overheating power supplies, Google said Wednesday.

The $279 laptop launched just a month ago, and marked Google's latest push into a low-end laptop market where it has rapidly taken market share.

Google recommended people who purchased an HP Chromebook 11 stop using the charger that came with the device.

"We are working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to identify the appropriate corrective action, and will provide additional information and instructions as soon as we can," Google vice president Caesar Sengupta said in a blog post.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the laptop was the fourth-best seller in the laptop category on Amazon.com.
