A big rig loaded with 20 tons of French fries overturned and slid down an embankment on its side and caught fire on Interstate 5 north of Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol Officer A. Rubio tells City News Service that no one was injured when the truck crashed on the Grapevine section of I-5 near Castaic at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Rubio says about 40,000 pounds of French fries would have to be removed from the truck's 53-foot refrigerated trailer before the wreckage could be pulled from 30 feet down the embankment back up to the highway.

The wreck didn't cause immediate traffic problems because it was off the road, but the CHP later had to shut down two southbound lanes in order to deal with the wreckage.
