Walt Disney's "Frozen" has become the fifth-highest grossing film in box office history, having taken in nearly $1.22 billion worldwide since its November 2013 debut. The film has won two Academy Awards and its soundtrack has sold 2.7 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Perhaps not surprisingly, then, Disney just can't "Let It Go."

Hoping to continue to capitalize on the red-hot flick, the media company has licensed Feld Entertainment to produce "Frozen" as a live show performed by a cast of more than 40 ice skaters and snow effects.

"We have been waiting for this movie for so long," said Nicole Feld, executive vice president of Feld Entertainment, which has produced Disney on Ice since 1981. "We have just not seen anything quite like the excitement that's happening with this film and subsequently Disney on Ice,"

The touring "Frozen" ice show sold more than 500,000 tickets in its first week, Feld said. More than 175,000 tickets were sold in the first 24 hours alone, she added.
