Free Wi-Fi will soon be on its way to New York City area airports, according to the Daily News.
All passengers will get 30 minutes of free wireless access under a deal expected to be approved Wednesday by the board of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the government agency that oversees the region's airports. After 30 minutes, passengers will be able to buy Wi-Fi for a daily rate of $7.95 or a monthly rate of $9.95, according to the Daily News.
The new 10-year contract with Boingo Wireless calls for the company to spend $3.8 million to improve internet speeds and signal connections. Currently the Port Authority gets to keep 37 percent of the W-Fi revenues but the new contract will give Boingo a better percentage, according to the Daily News.
U.S. airports are uneven in their Wi-Fi offerings and can be hard to track. Earlier this month, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International, the world's busiest airport, also started providing free Wi-Fi, SmarterTravel.com reported.
