Butter mess shuts down Merritt Parkway

A tractor trailer carrying butter smashed into a bridge and burst into flames Tuesday near the Connecticut-New York line, forcing a partial closure of the scenic Merritt Parkway after the slippery contents spilled on the road.

The truck struck the King Street Bridge by Exit 27 around 11:20 a.m., and the northbound lanes were expected to be closed for hours, the Greenwich Post reported.

No injuries were reported. Trucks are not permitted on the parkway.
