Presumed dead, Fox exec's body found near LA: Report

The remains of a presumed dead Twenty-First Century Fox executive have been found in an area outside of Los Angeles, NBC News Los Angeles reported, citing sources close to the investigation.

Gavin Smith went missing on May 1, 2012, and in the absence of a body was declared dead two years later. However, sources told NBC News LA that Smith's remains were found in a remote location in Palmdale. According to the report, the Los Angeles County coroner's office positively identified the remains, but the cause of death was yet to be determined.

According to NBC News LA, a convicted drug dealer was named "a person of interest" in the case, and the man is currently incarcerated on a drug charge.

The LA County coroner's office positively identified the remains of the 57-year-old, the report said. However, the cause of death and motive were yet to be determined.

Smith was in charge of distribution at Twenty-First Century Fox.
