New 'Star Wars' title officially unveiled

Disney officially announced the title of its upcoming seventh "Star Wars" film: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The company, which won the franchise when it bought Lucasfilm in 2012, unveiled the new name on Thursday.

The new film, which marks the first of several planned Disney-led "Star Wars" movies, is expected to be a major event for the company.

Programming note: Disney CEO Bob Iger will be on CNBC's "Closing Bell" at 4:15 p.m. ET, Thursday.
