Kickstarter on Monday suspended funding for a gaming system that draws real blood from players. The project launched less than a week ago.
The game, dubbed "Blood Sport," hopes to turn the act of donating blood into a real-life competition. Its mission is to develop a "refined multiplayer unit that can be taken across the country for blood donation gaming events," according to its Kickstarter page.
The project had collected $3,390 toward its $250,000 goal before the suspension.

The news comes as more game-makers fight to blur the line between play and reality to create fully immersive technology. Consoles like Facebook's Oculus Rift and Sony's Project Morpheus aim to make virtual reality a standard part of the gaming experience.
"Blood Sport" connects a standard blood collection system to a gamepad's "rumble system" that's equipped with sterilized bags. The rumble feature signals when a player's been shot and triggers the blood-drawing mechanism.
"All we're doing is hacking a pre-existing blood collection machine to take your gaming experience to the next level," the campaign says. "All we want to do is create the best, most immersive gaming experience possible—while also helping people in need."
Kickstarter said it does not comment on project suspensions.
On its website Kickstarter says, "A project may be suspended if our Integrity team uncovers evidence that it is in violation of one or more of Kickstarter's rules." Canada-based Blood Sport did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
