Ronaldo Nepal donation was false: Save the Children

Some thing are just too good to be true.

On Thursday, Save the Children confirmed that earlier reports of soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's donation of $7.8 million for relief in Nepal were false.

"The recent information about Cristiano Ronaldo's donation to Save the Childern's emergency response in Nepal is false," the organization said in a statement in Spanish.

Nevertheless, Save the Children went on to thank the Real Madrid and Portugal ace for his efforts as an organization ambassador.

Ronaldo's apparent donation was first reported by French soccer site sofoot.com on May 7.

A number of news organizations, including CNBC.com, picked up the story.
