Tickets for Star Wars' opening night? Be ready to pay up

Tickets for the latest installment of the Star Wars movie franchise are being scalped at exorbitant prices, reports Variety Magazine.

Fans who want to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" the night it opens are looking to the Internet for scalped tickets. Variety reports that Imax 3D tickets in big cities are going for more than $200. Tickets originally priced around $20 for these types of showings.

The surreptitious rise of the online scalper

Ticket scalping for major events is nothing new. If an event is sold out, people will search online at sites such as Craigslist and eBay for repurchased tickets, but usually at much higher prices.

Variety reports that the movie has sold more than $50 million in ticket sales. Opening night is slated for Dec. 18.
