Indian wedding planners have a tough act to follow; the lavish nuptials of high-profile couples can run for days, with every detail catalogued by news outlets and dissected on social media.

Here are some recent celebrity marriages that helped set the trends for Indian weddings, and set the bar for planners just a little bit higher

Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra

Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh married long time girlfriend, actress Geeta Basra, in a grand wedding in the city of Jalandhar, Punjab, in October 2015, followed by a reception a few days later in New Delhi.

Guests at the events ranged from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, R.P. Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel, Indian newspapers reported.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput

A low-key farmhouse wedding ceremony was followed by a massive Mumbai party when Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor married Mira Rajput in July 2015.

According to The Indian Express, guests received chrome-plate invitations engraved with details of the shindig, that also functioned as a security pass for guests.

Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan

Investment banker Naina Bachchan, the niece of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, married actor Kunal Kapoor in February 2015, in a private ceremony in the Seychelles.

Vogue India reported that the nuptials were followed by a two-day celebration at Amaanta Farms, a lush 6,5000-square-foot garden in Delhi.

Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan

After meeting on the sets of "Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge" and "99", actors Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan married in what for Indian showbiz was a low-key ceremony in January 2015.

Bollywoodshaadis.com reported that Soha tweeted a selfie just before taking her wedding vows, saying, "My last selfie as a single lady!"

Avishkar Singhvi and Aastha Gandhi

When Congressman Abhishek Manu Singhvi's younger son Avishkar married Aastha Gandhi, the daughter of industrialist Rajesh Gandhi, MD of the Vadilal Group, in October 2015, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former PM Manmohan Singh were in attendance, according to The Economic Times.

The wedding of Indian actor and producer Salman Khan's sister, fashion designer Arpita Khan, and Aayush Sharma, a businessman and the son of politician Anil Sharma, was held at the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad in November 2014.

Bollywoodshaadis.com reported that the wedding cake weighed 150kgs, in order to cater for the celebrity and politician-heavy guest list of 250.

Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha

Model, actress, producer and one-time Miss Asia-Pacific, Dia Mirza, and film-maker Sahil Sangha dated for four years and postponed their wedding twice before marrying in October 2014 at a lavish event at a farmhouse in New Delhi, according to reports.
