GrubHub finds rise in savory foods on New Years

Pounding headache, dry mouth, dizziness — many New Year's celebrants will experience the tell-tale sign of a big night…the dreaded next-day hangover.

And then at some point, they'll decide what to eat.

Following a night of New Year's Eve excess earlier this year, GrubHub diners opted for indulgence dishes more than on a typical Thursday.

On Jan. 1, people were 3,252 percent more likely to order a deep-dish pizza than usual.

Hash browns were the next-biggest gainer on New Year's Day, jumping 290 percent, while eggs Benedict rose 270 percent. Pan cheese pizza and challah French toast also cracked the top-10 list.

Talk about ditching those New Year's resolutions.

"I think of it as the Cyber Monday of the restaurant delivery year," said Sandra Glading, GrubHub head of communications, in a phone interview.

"You can tell that people are treating themselves on the first day of the year," she said.
