CNBC announces new ‘Sustainable Energy’ series sponsored by Total

LONDON and SINGAPORE, 12th January 2016 - CNBC, the world's leading business and financial news network, today announced the start of a new series, Sustainable Energy.

Each month Sustainable Energy will speak to analysts, business leaders and experts, discussing ways to improve the way we live, work and play. The series will get to the heart of how science, technology and innovation are striving to change our usage and to make companies and individuals more efficient, improving lives, saving money and lowering our impact on the planet.

Sustainable Energy will be hosted by presenter James Wright. In association with Creative Content and TIMA Film, and sponsored by leading international oil and gas company Total, the first programme will premiere on Wednesday, 20th January and will air monthly across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In Asia Pacific, the programme will air on the 23rd January.

John Casey, Senior Vice President of News and Programming for CNBC International said, "Sustainable Energy will look at how innovation can help us to power our lives more efficiently, and will speak with the key people shaping the energy landscape, examining sectors such as transport, agriculture and construction. With Sustainable Energy top of the global agenda, the series will explore an extremely relevant issue."

The series kicks off by turning the spotlight on four of the main transportation sectors - electric cars, rail, maritime and aviation. Guiding us through the episode is expert Professor Arphad Horvath, Co-Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center in UC Berkeley, California.

Guests will include technicians from Maersk's Maritime Technology department on creating a more sustainable shipping service, researchers at the aerospace department at Cranfield University on how air travel can become more environmentally friendly, a representative from the Shinkansen railway company in Japan on the upsides of using high speed rail as a method of transport, and Meg Ruxton from 'Charge Across Town', an organization encouraging the roll out of electric cars in San Francisco.
