Manufacturing activity in New York state was weaker than expected in February, a New York Federal Reserve survey showed on Tuesday.

The New York Fed's Empire State general business conditions index shrank to -16.64 from -19.37 in January.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected the index to shrink to 10.00 in the month. A reading above zero indicates expansion.
