The most unpredictable U.S. presidential race in years could take another turn on Tuesday.

A dozen states will hold presidential contests on Super Tuesday, with financial market participants keenly eyeing the results to see if current front-runners—Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton—maintain their momentum.

There are other reasons for keeping a close eye on the outcome: Super Tuesday has often signaled a short-term bounce in the stock market.
