In a speed battle pitting plane against car, a Tesla Model S raced a Qantas Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the Avalon Airport in Melbourne, Australia.

Though the five seater Model S cannot fly, the car held its own, reaching a maximum speed of 155 miles per hour compared to the 161 miles per hour of the 737 at take-off.

The drag race, however, was more than just a cool stunt. Both Qantas and Tesla organized the race to announce their new partnership to promote innovation and sustainability in the transport industry.

"What better way to celebrate working together than having a unique race — car versus plane," said Alan Milne, Qantas' head of environment and fuel, in a statement.
