As major averages top their highs for the year, stocks that track them — like banks — suddenly look pretty interesting, the "Fast Money" traders said Tuesday.
The Dow Jones industrial average and closed at 2016 highs Tuesday, both above psychologically key levels of 18,000 and 2,100, respectively. Meanwhile, names that are trading underwater in the financial sector are opportunities for growth, trader Pete Najarian said.
"Love JPMorgan, I think it has the best management there is the financial world. But not as much upside, I think, as Bank of America and Citi," Najarian said.
Trader Karen Finerman echoed Najarian's thoughts, adding she just sold shares of JPMorgan.
Trader Guy Adami has love for the financials too, especially Wells Fargo, Bank of America and JPMorgan. But he said he's looking for more modest and conservative management, like that at U.S. Bancorp. Gold mining companies also caught Adami's eye.
What markets want is a perfect "goldilocks" landing, where growth is strong but not so strong as to induce tighter U.S. central bank policy, according to trader Tim Seymour. But Seymour is skeptical the Federal Reserve can pull of a perfect interest rate policy, prompting him to think that the volatility index — VIX — will rise from 13 to 30.
"The market's not going to scream higher," Seymour said.
