Street Explained: A better way to 'sell in May'

Sell in May and go away? The old adage is true, according to statistics. Going back for decades, the biggest gains in the stock market were made in the six-month period from November to April each year, while going largely sideways from May to October.

Still, I would not recommend this strategy for most investors. Here's a better way to play it.
