10 stocks that almost always rise on earnings

In the final weeks of the first-quarter earnings season, a group of stocks could be ready to pop, if history is any guide.

Of the 315 companies that have reported first-quarter results so far, 74 percent beat EPS estimates, 7 percent matched and 19 percent missed. Of those names, about 57 percent of companies disclosed revenue figures above analysts' expectations, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

While betting on stocks ahead of earnings is often a difficult trade, investors tend to look at historical data to make assessments about the future.
