Team Health spikes 16% after report of possible sale

Shares of Team Health spiked 16 percent late Thursday after a report that the health-care services company is discussing a possible sale.

Team Health is in talks with Blackstone Group and Bain Capital and could strike a deal as soon as this month, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The health-care services company offers outsourced emergency medicine, hospital medicine, critical care and other services to more than 3,000 facilities nationwide. The firm had a market value of about $2.4 billion before the report, according to FactSet.

Team Health did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
