The "Fast Money" traders debated whether it's too late to get into Consol Energy, a stock that has surged 152 percent so far this year.

Trader Steve Grasso said he likes Consol because it also has a natural gas angle.

But investors who have held the stock from its lows should probably take some profits off the table ahead of earnings, said trader Guy Adami.

Trader Tim Seymour said he thinks coal prices have bottomed and that buying into the space is a "sustainable" trade. He said that investors should look for companies like Rio Tinto, which actually has and generates free cash flow.
