Silicon Valley investor and Facebook director Peter Thiel congratulated President-elect Donald Trump's election win — his pick for president — and called for the country to come together.

"Congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump. He has an awesomely difficult task, since it is long past time for us to face up to our country's problems. We're going to need all hands on deck," he wrote in a statement to CNBC.

Among Silicon Valley executives and investors, Thiel was virtually alone in his support for the Republican nominee.

Tech workers gave 60 times more cash to Hillary Clinton than to Trump. In other words, for every $1 that employees at the world's biggest technology companies donated to Trump, they gave $60 to Clinton.

Thiel addressed the Republican National Convention in July, and spent over $1 million backing Trump. The loudest voices in tech this cycle have all been anti-Trump.
