Snapchat's $130 video recording glasses are being sold on eBay for as much as $5,000.

This marks a price hike of over 3746 percent. On the lower end of the scale, sellers have put price tags of $500 on the gadget, called Spectacles.

Snapchat – which has been renamed Snap Inc – has generated hype around Spectacles by limiting availability and only selling them via vending machines which appear in certain areas. Users who want a pair need to check the Spectacles website which shows a countdown clock that eventually reveals the next location of the vending machine. At the moment, it appears to be travelling around California.

At the vending machine known as Snapbot, users can select the color Spectacles they want from black, teal, or coral, and then pay with a debit or credit card.

So far, the Snapbot has been spotted in Venice Beach, CA, which is near Snap's headquarters. It was then seen by fans in Big Sur, CA. Users wanting to know the next location need to keep an eye on the countdown clock.

One user selling the Spectacles for $2,000 on eBay is advertising them as "straight from the vending machine". It's unclear if anyone has purchased the device for this price.

Getting your hands on Spectacles seems tough with social media posts showing the frustration and heartbreak of some customers.
