President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday he is considering former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Just last week, the neurosurgeon's business manager and close friend, Armstrong Williams, told The Hill.com that Carson would not join the incoming Trump administration and would only serve as an unofficial adviser.

"Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he's never run a federal agency," Williams told the publication. "The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency."

Carson endorsed Trump almost immediately after dropping out of the Republican presidential race in March. At the time, he praised Trump's "guts" and "energy," calling the then-candidate very "cerebral."
