These stocks post big gains one week before a Fed hike, history shows

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to hike interest rates one week from Wednesday. CNBC PRO ran a screen using hedge fund analytics tool Kensho to find which Dow Jones industrial average stocks perform the best, on average, in the five trading days before a hike.

We looked at the last three rate-hiking cycles back to 1994. Here's what we found:

Goldman Sachs had the best average performance as traders bet on a steeper yield curve and higher economic and trading activity as a result of the Fed's move.
