State-run Kuwait Oil Co (KOC) has stopped an oil leak in the country's south-west and is working on rehabilitating the well for production, it said on Monday in a statement on its official Twitter account.

KOC added a team is working to secure the well and no harmful gas leak has been detected.

It expects to fully control the well and secure it within a few hours, KOC said.

Late on Sunday, the firm announced a state of emergency because of the leak.
