Ronald P. O'Hanley

Ronald OHanley, President and COO of State Street

Ron was named president and chief operating officer of State Street Corporation in November of 2017. He is responsible for State Street's Global Services and Global Markets businesses, Information Technology, Global Operations, and Global Exchange (State Street's data and analytics business). He is also a member of State Street's Management Committee, the company's most senior strategy and policy-making team.


Ron was previously president and chief executive officer of State Street Global Advisors, the investment management arm of State Street Corporation and a global leader with nearly $2.8 trillion in assets under management.


Prior to his role at State Street Global Advisors, Ron was president of Asset Management & Corporate Services for Fidelity Investments. Ron was responsible for all Fidelity Asset Management organizations, including Fidelity Management & Research Company, Pyramis Global Advisors, and the Asset Allocation teams. He also oversaw Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Risk, Corporate Compliance, Government Relations and Public Affairs, Enterprise Technology, and Pricing and Cash Management Services. Ron was a member of Fidelity's Executive Committee. Ron served at Fidelity from 2010 to 2014.


Prior to joining Fidelity, Ron served as president and chief executive officer of BNY Mellon Asset Management in Boston, a position to which he was named in 2007. During this time, Ron also served as vice chairman of Bank of New York Mellon Corp. and was a member of the Executive Committee. Additionally, Ron oversaw all of Bank of New York Mellon's activities in Asia. Prior to the 2007 merger of The Bank of New York and Mellon Financial Corporation, he was vice chairman of Mellon Financial Corporation and president and chief executive officer of Mellon Asset Management. He served at Mellon and Bank of New York Mellon from 1997 to 2010.
Prior to Mellon Ron was with McKinsey & Company, Inc., from 1986 to 1997. He was elected a partner in 1992. He founded the Investment Management practice worldwide and was co-founder and co-leader of the firm's North American Personal Financial Services practice. Additionally, he was a core member of the Worldwide Property & Casualty Insurance practice. During his tenure with McKinsey, Ron served in McKinsey's Boston, New York, and Stockholm offices and focused globally on financial services, insurance companies, and health care payers.
Ron received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Syracuse University in 1980 and his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1986.


Ron serves on the boards of Unum Corp and Rhode Island Commerce Corp. He also serves on the boards of The Boston Foundation; The Conference Board; the East/West Institute (Executive Committee); the IYRS School of Technology and Trades; Syracuse University; and WBUR. Ron is a member of Focusing Capital on the Long Term, an initiative founded by CPP Investment Board and McKinsey & Company to advance practical actions to focus business and markets on the long term. He has advised a number of technology and financial services start-ups.
Ron's philanthropic and civic interests include corporate governance, retirement/healthcare policy and funding, and market structure and operations. He has led several initiatives on gender equality. Ron is a frequent speaker and writer, and is an avid offshore sailboat racer.
