Stock market live Wednesday: First down day in 3, best month since '87, Fed fears virus 'resurgence'

This is a markets live blog for CNBC PRO subscribers that will be updated throughout the day.

Stocks moved between gains and losses on Wednesday, before the Dow and S&P 500 closed in the red. The move lower was the first day of losses in three, and the Dow couldn't hold onto the 30,000 level, which it first crossed on Tuesday.

The major averages may be hovering around record highs, but the Federal Reserve's minutes from its Nov. meeting, which were released on Wednesday, show that officials believe the market isn't out of the woods yet. For continuous real-time insight on the market see below.
