What I am looking at Feb. 24, 2022

  • Special edition: Ukraine invasion plus inflation because of increasing supply chain pressures and higher oil ...
  • Massive obliteration of almost all 600 stocks and SPACs created last year continues. No support, no analysts defending because not covered. Call them Orphans of the Storm.
  • Market looking to open down 3%, based on how much down and oversold condition ... too late to sell most, looking to buy ... members watch for Club special bulletin this morning. Concerned: no local TV trucks at exchange yet ...
  • Sound of cannons historically means time to buy ... oversold so have to take action on stocks where levels were arrived at calmly. See sell some Chevron (CVX) so we can buy stocks we said we would buy when the market was at higher levels.
  • Oil up $8, West Texas breaches $100, time to take some profits as the momentum could cool from here.
  • Russian sanctions much more impactful for Europe. We will end up shrugging off all but directly involved and the Orphans of the Storm …. Ineffective sanctions as we knew.
  • Ebay (EBAY) disappointing on the face of it. Surprising to see first quarter so down.
  • Five9 (FIVN) — good quarter but weak guidance and gross margins. Historically management has given conservative guide and market has ignored it. Not this time. Looks like the Nasdaq obliteration continues; Piper Sandler calls selloff a gift ...
  • Macy's (M) upgraded to neutral from sell by Citi, cites great quarter and non-stop decline like every other retailer ...
  • Are Beijing's limits being tested. PRC sides with Putin for now ….
  • Citi says DRAM prices steady for now which is unprecedented
  • Molson Coors (TAP) prices target goes to $58 from $52 ... beer play, people drink beer in a recession. Dividend boost. Amazing conference call. Bullpen for Trust? Have to sell something first ...
  • Zoom (ZM) price target lowered to $147 from $250 ... classic Cathie Wood underperformer ...
  • Mattel (MAT) hold to buy by Stifel—interesting idea given lack of economic sensitivity for Barbie ...
  • Allbirds (BIRD) good number but weaker guidance. Orphan of the Storm ...
  • Kodiak Sciences (KOD) to neutral from buy at JPMorgan ... unmitigated disaster as major trial of key drug pitted against Eylea from Regeneron fails to meet endpoint ...
  • Tenneco (TEN) and Meritor (MTOR) bought. Is next to go BorgWarner (BWA)? Revenge of the nerds.
