European markets ended the week flat as hopes of a Santa Claus rally faded.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 closed flat, the Dax was up 0.2% while the Cac 40 ended 0.2% lower. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 finished trading at lunchtime, closing almost flat, up just 0.05%.
Sectors were mixed by the end of the day, with basic resources up 0.76% and tech down 0.61%. Friday was the last working day before the Christmas break with most European exchanges reopening Wednesday, Dec. 28

It comes as U.S. stocks fell Friday as the month's sell-off resumed. In Asia-Pacific, meanwhile, shares were lower after Japan’s core inflation came in at its highest level in over 40 years.
