Company: Hello Heart
Title: Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer
Industry: Health care
Hometown: Tel Aviv, Israel
Notable in 2023: Led company from bomb shelters in Tel Aviv, while providing housing, safety and counseling for employees after tragedy of October 7.

Maayan Cohen's digital health company Hello Heart has been leading the charge against heart disease since 2013. But when Hamas attacked Israeli citizens on October 7, the Israeli-American dual citizen returned back to her Tel Aviv headquarters to help her employees.

Working in and out of bomb shelters, Cohen provided support for both her Israeli and Palestinian employees. Hello Heart has established housing, safety and mental health assistance for those affected. When 10% of its employees were called into Israeli military reserve, the company opened an aid center to assist their families.

"We must acknowledge what has happened and help our teams through this crisis," Cohen wrote on the company's LinkedIn page. "Don't let this tragedy be just another news item. Be an agent of empathy, peace, and kindness and fight the cruelty of these acts with an outpouring of love and kindness."

When I think about success, I ask myself, how many people have I helped today? Did someone avoid a devastating health crisis because they are more aware of their heart health? If I’m successful, it will be because I scaled Hello Heart to reach every single person who needs it.

The company's products and services allow individuals to monitor heart stats using connected devices and a digital coaching app. It gives people suggestions on how to change their lifestyle, potentially saving their lives. One person dies in the U.S. every 33 seconds due to cardiovascular disease, per the CDC.

Despite the recent challenges, Hello Heart has grown 100% in the last year. The company closed $70 million in Series D financing in 2022.

"You can't be a business leader if you aren't making a statement," Cohen told CNN.
