Brain Hive Expands On-Demand eBook Service for U.S. K-12 Schools

Titles from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Annick Press, and August House Now Offered

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Brain Hive, LLC, a private Minneapolis-based education company, announced today that its on-demand eBook lending service for schools has expanded with highly acclaimed and award-winning children’s titles from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Annick Press, and August House. The nationwide on-demand eBook service was launched in June 2012 to support rejuvenated library collections and digital reading in K–12 schools and offers unlimited access to a large eBook collection valued at over $100,000. Students and educators check out eBooks from Brain Hive on demand, while the school pays just $1.00 for each book circulated—a Brain Hive Buck™.

Brain Hive is the first on-demand eBook rental service for schools, instantly expanding a school’s eBook collection with access to thousands of fiction and nonfiction titles, as well as printable activities, teaching resources, and Accelerated Reader quizzes from Renaissance Learning. Brain Hive is the first eBook platform to link with the AR Enterprise platform to support lifelong reading achievement. Membership to the service is free to schools, and nearly 300 schools across the country have already joined the service since it launched this summer. The company expects hundreds more schools to join this school year.

Brain Hive was developed to meet the unique needs and gaps that exist today in the school market for eBook availability, discoverability, ease-of-use, and affordability. With Brain Hive, schools don’t spend limited education funds paying top-dollar for eBooks that don’t circulate but rather pay only for the books being read by their students and teachers. Brain Hive changes the eBook purchasing paradigm, making it possible for schools to revitalize their library collections with thousands of titles and no investment risk.

In addition to the new titles from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Annick Press, and August House, Brain Hive includes thousands of titles from respected children’s publishers including Random House Children’s Books, Open Road Integrated Media, Charlesbridge Publishing, Lee & Low Books, Lerner Publishing Group, Andersen Press USA, Gecko Press, The Creative Company, The Kane Press, Red Chair Press, and Stoke Books. Brain Hive will continue to release new titles from additional publishers offering a dynamic, continually updated content library to support teaching and learning in schools.

To support Brain Hive’s publishers and manage the business development aspects of the company’s content partnerships, the company recently hired Jill Yngve Nadeau as Partner Relations Manager. Ms. Nadeau collaborates with publishers on content selection to build a high-quality, curated eBook collection that meets K-12 needs. Prior to joining Brain Hive, LLC, Jill worked in account management and sales for more than 17 years with favorite children’s publishers including Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, and Scholastic, Inc.
