Cerner 3Q net jumps 25 percent

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Shares of Cerner Corp. soared in after-hours trading Thursday after the health care information management company said its third quarter net income increased 25 percent as bookings rose.

The company made $98.9 million, or 56 cents per share, for the quarter that ended Sept. 29. That was up from $78.8 million, or 45 cents per share, during the same period last year.

Revenue rose 18.3 percent to $676.5 million.

Excluding one-time items, adjusted earnings were $105.2 million, or 60 cents per share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected 59 cents per share on revenue of $652.8 million.

Cerner predicted fourth-quarter revenue of $670 million to $700 million, and adjusted profit of 62 to 64 cents per share. Analysts forecast profit of 64 cents per share, with revenue at $688.4 million.

Cerner shares jumped $6.78, or 10 percent, to $75.25 in after-hours trading.
