Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition Wins Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road 2013 4x4 of the Year Competition

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Source Interlink Media, LLC (SIM) announced today that Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine has named the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab the winner of its coveted 4x4 of the Year award. This is the 31st year of the enthusiast magazine's in-depth competition of new 4x4 vehicles, and the fourth time the Jeep Wrangler has taken home the award. In fact, Jeep products have won the award more than any other mark, a total of 13 times for different Jeep vehicles.

The Jeep Wrangler Moab edition squared off against the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman Crew Cab 4x4, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk in the rigorous competition. The Jeep Wrangler Moab achieved high marks in every category during the grueling 1,000-mile trial that evaluates each vehicle's suspension, engine, transmission, and transfer case along with the style and creature comforts the vehicle provides. Most importantly, the 4x4s are judged heavily on how well they perform off-road in dirt, mud, rocks, sand, and gravel, as well as on the highway.

“The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab edition proved once again what a Jeep is all about,” said Rick Péwé, Editor-in-Chief of Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road. “The Moab edition has the basic options that allow for great backcountry exploring and 4-wheeling without the fear of not returning to civilization. The Moab edition is another hit for Chrysler in the long 70-year history that is the Jeep brand. It never fails to deliver in this package.”

“The new Jeep Wrangler Moab edition delivers rugged off-road features such as winch-ready steel bumpers, upgraded rock rails and an available rear-locker in a package that pays tribute to our most diehard Jeep enthusiasts and the off-road playground they love,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The editors of Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine always put vehicles through the toughest paces in their 4x4 of the Year testing. We’re pleased this opinion-leading publication has recognized the outstanding capability of the new Jeep Wrangler Moab edition.”

To be eligible to compete, a vehicle must be all-new or have substantial improvements that make it perform significantly different from the previous model year. Vehicles must also be available for sale before January 15 of the model year, have a production run of at least 2,500 units, and be equipped with a two-speed transfer case. The complete test results and vehicle evaluations for the 2013 4x4 of the Year competition will appear in the February 2013 issue, available December 4th, 2012.

Information on the test will also be available on the Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road website, www.4wheeloffroad.com and on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/4wheeloffroad.
