The 22-day 14th West Lake International Expo kicked off on Oct 13

HANGZHOU, China, Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Jointly hosted by several government departments including the National Tourism Administration of China, the General Administration of Sport of China and the Zhejiang Provincial Government, the 14th West Lake International Expo Hangzhou, China officially kicked off on October 13. Organization of the 22-day event was administered by Hangzhou's municipal government.

The main venue for the event is located in the heart of Hangzhou, while activities are also taking place at an additional 14 smaller venues located in nearby locations including at the Hangzhou metropolitan economic zone and throughout the Yangtze River Delta. The 132-program event features a series of shows including West Lake International Fireworks Show, West Lake Art Expo, China International Press Photo Contest, West Lake International Sculpture Exhibition and China Arts and Crafts Masterwork Exhibition.

The 14th West Lake International Expo has taken an innovative approach which highlights the platform function of the expo by integrating existing resources, allowing for the creation of a more effective event dedicated to international economic and trade cooperation. The fair, with the theme "Industrial Development: Upgrade and Transformation" and which supports a series of expo programs, seeks to facilitate economic and trade cooperation, attract investment, drive industrial transformation and accelerate fast and sound economic development. The expo, which focuses on facilitating economic and trade cooperation and developing the services industry, features an opening ceremony, five conventions including an international investment meeting, five exhibitions including the Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Expo, as well as 12 traditional programmes including an exchange meeting for Hangzhou's top ten industries, an arts and crafts collection show, and a chop stone culture fair.

Highlighting industry growth and international exchange, the West Lake International Expo is expected to witness the signing of deals amount to 10 billion yuan in domestic investment and US$1 billion in outbound investment. With more than 20 percent of the booths in the 100,000 square meter expo area being hosted by foreign exhibitors, the expo is on track to see over visitors over 50,000 visitors pass through its doors and visit the booths of the 5,000 overseas professional exhibitors from more than 40 countries and regions.
