Microburst, a 3rd generation Software Defined Radio (SDR) Platform from DataSoft, is a small, embedded, high-performance SDR system for enhanced communication capabilities, with high bandwidth and range.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Building on over 5 years of development of both commercial and military SDRs, DataSoft Corporation, a wireless communications product and technology company, today announced the availability of the Microburst SDR System. Microburst is the newest offering in a family of affordable, wide-band, high-performance SDR platforms. Microburst features a full-duplex, wide-band RF transceiver; a digital system featuring the TI OMAP 37x GPP/DSP processor and dual Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGAs; and a front end module, all operating in an open-source Linux-based environment and packaged in a ruggedized (IP67/68) package. External interfaces include Bluetooth; Wi-Fi; a commercial GPS receiver providing location, time, and an accurate 1-PPS output; 10/100 Ethernet; USB; external clock input/outputs; audio input/outputs; micro-SD card; and a Digital Visual Interface (DVI).
Measuring 6” x 6” x 1.75”, covering 30 MHz to 3800 MHz, with programmable RF bandwidths from 1.5 MHz to 28 MHz, Microburst offers advanced SDR capability in a small, rugged, deployable platform.
“The Microburst SDR is a full-duplex reconfigurable COTS solution populated with the latest in low-power components and technologies optimized for size, cost and performance. Microburst responds to the demand for higher-speed processing and improved RF performance with a design that uses the next generation of lower power components,” says Rod Kronschnabel, Hardware Team Director at DataSoft.
Microburst arrives with a pre-integrated, packaged Linux-based OS environment with a full Software Development Kit (SDK), programming and waveform examples, a seamless connection to industry-standard algorithm and waveform development tools such as Matlab and GNU Radio, a quick start guide, and full documentation.
A separate Microburst SDR Development System is available for algorithm and waveform development, offering numerous test points, software data probes, Matlab/GNU Radio interfaces, high-speed data transfer via 100/1G Ethernet, and 15 user-defined discrete I/O pins, all operating in an open-source Linux-based environment and packaged in a lightweight metal enclosure. Algorithms and waveforms developed on the Microburst Development Platform run directly on the Microburst SDR; very little porting is required.
