SAN DIEGO -- The owner of U-T San Diego says it has completed its purchase of the region's second-largest newspaper, the North County Times.
San Diego hotelier Doug Manchester's MLIM Holdings said Monday that there will be an unspecified number of layoffs at the North County Times, which covers northern San Diego County. The company says it will offer more details on its plans within the next few weeks.
The owner of San Diego's dominant newspaper announced earlier this month that it would buy the North County Times for $12 million from Lee Enterprises Inc., owner of dozens of newspapers nationwide including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Arizona Daily Star.
The purchase comes less than a year after Manchester bought U-T San Diego for about $110 million.
