Newport Media Relies on Berkeley Design Automation Analog FastSPICE Platform to Deliver Wireless Connectivity Devices

Platform Delivers Nanometer SPICE Accuracy 5x to 10x Faster for 802.11N Wi-Fi SoC

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Berkeley Design Automation, Inc., provider of the world’s fastest nanometer circuit verification, today announced that Newport Media, Inc., an innovative fabless communications semiconductor company supplying products to the broadcast media industry, has selected the company’s Analog FastSPICE (AFS) Platform for block-level characterization and full-circuit verification of their wireless connectivity devices.

“Our Wi-Fi® SoC includes all RF and baseband circuitry required to provide IEEE 802.11b, g, n-compliant operation including all necessary power amplifiers and switches,” said Edward Youssoufian, VP, RF/AMS Engineering at Newport Media, “The AFS Platform is indispensable in our verification flow because it provides nanometer SPICE accuracy enabling us to minimize errors/re-spins. We also rely on AFS to predict the top-level power consumption of our ultra-low-power Wi-Fi devices.”

The Analog FastSPICE Platform provides the world’s fastest circuit verification for nanometer analog, RF, mixed-signal, and custom digital circuits. Foundry certified to 20nm, the AFS Platform delivers nanometer SPICE accuracy 5x-10x faster on a single core and >2x faster on multicore systems versus any other simulator. For circuit characterization, the AFS Platform includes the industry’s only comprehensive silicon-accurate device noise analysis and delivers near-linear performance scaling with the number of cores. For large circuits, it delivers >10M-element capacity, the fastest near-SPICE-accurate simulation, and the fastest, most accurate mixed-signal simulation. Available licenses include AFS circuit simulation, AFS Transient Noise Analysis, AFS RF Analysis, AFS Co-Simulation, and AFS Nano SPICE.

“We are delighted that Newport Media continues to rely on the Analog FastSPICE Platform as it enters the wireless connectivity market,” said Ravi Subramanian, president and CEO of Berkeley Design Automation. “Newport Media’s selection further validates that Berkeley Design Automation is an essential partner to leading-edge companies in wireless communications.”
